Digital Grid Evolution was a real hit!
The Digital Grid Evolution – Integrated Systems for a Zero Emission Transition event was held on 17 May. The new project launched by Energia Media and AUTOMA looks at integrated, pan-European, low-carbon energy systems, in line with the governance regulation of the EU Clean Energy Package. A holistic vision that will also guide the integration of systems and markets for electricity, gas, heating/cooling and mobility in Italy, with Smart Grids, Smart Meters and increasingly high-performance generation mixes. This will also be joined by the water sector, also in view of the strong climate, social and economic changes underway.
The European Technology and Innovation Platform Smart Networks for Energy Transition (ETIP SNET) in Vision 2050 speaks of safe, reliable, resilient, accessible, cost-efficient integrated systems. In dialogue with a market that paves the way for an increasingly circular, zero-emission economy by 2050, innovation and industrial leadership are increasingly important.
An agenda full of interesting speeches
Firmly convinced of the value of this vision, Energia Media, in the person of Emanuele Martinelli, brought to the attention of operators the potential of increasingly digitised cross-sector markets, which will undoubtedly have utilities at their core, in dialogue with the most representative worlds of research, development and innovation (RD&I); giving an up-to-date picture – also in collaboration with international institutions – of the efforts in this direction that will be pursued in the decades to come.
Processes and technologies for networked systems integration are already on the minds of a large community of experts, for whom digital transformation and organisational innovation have become a business imperative. That is why today it makes sense to discuss about:
- convergence between Operation Technology and Information Technology, in order to holistically integrate the innovation brought by digital in the areas of utilities;
- no longer just operational efficiency, but value created by new business, thanks to the integration of areas developed for internal processes and those dedicated to the production and management of big data for external services.
Digital innovation = Integration of technologies
“Zero emissions” goal
There were several areas that we covered during the meeting held at our premises; among them:
- Smart Grid
- Smart Meter
- IoT
- Artificial Intelligence
- Digital Twin
- protocols and standards
- Monitoring platforms
- Computer Science
- Data Analytics
- Data Management
- Virtual Reality
- Augmented Reality
- Cloud Computing
- Cyber Security
Spheres of innovation brought by experts representing a new value chain, brought together to foster the construction of interconnected and flexible systems. Systems capable of combining holistic vision in networks with independence in the distributed generation of primary resources (including water), to be delivered and measured through increasingly high quality infrastructures, for a cultural as well as energy transition, with zero emissions as its goal.
A parterre of the highest level
Among the experts, we had the honour of hosting Giovanni Vetritto, Coordinator of the Department of Regional Affairs and Autonomies of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, who opened the proceedings by remote link, Marcello Capra, Strategic Energy Technology (SET) Plan Delegate at the Ministry of Ecological Transition, Michele De Nigris, Director of the Department of Sustainable Development and Energy Sources, Eleonora Riva Sanseverino, Italian representative of Horizon Europe for the future of our cities, Angelo Di Gregorio, CRIET Director – Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca, Gabriele Comodi, Professor of Mechanical Engineering representing the Università Politecnica delle Marche, Samir Traini of Laboratorio Ref, Diego Gavagnin, coordinator at ConferenzaGNL, Francesca Mondello, Energy&Utilities Sales Specialist at TIM, Maurizio Scaccabarozzi, Sales & Customer Service Manager at A2A Smart City, and Leonardo Cavalieri, Sales & Marketing Manager at MAC.
We would like to warmly thank all participants – speakers and listeners – for the interesting talks and constructive participation that characterised the Digital Grid Evolution event.
Appointment in September!
The next appointment will always be in Ancona on 21 and 22 September for the highly anticipated Smart Grid Days 2022, a more technical meeting that, as always, will provide excellent food for thought and discussion for all operators in the sector.
